Hello cyclists,
Rain is in the forecast for Wednesday afternoon, so Joe and I decided to move the start time of the ride up to 9 am. Roads should be less busy and weather will be a little cooler as well as avoiding the rain (we hope). The down side is no lunch at Shibley's or Pop's; however, there is the Corner Store in Alton Bay where we can get a snack, or you can bring your own. Hope to see you Wednesday morning.
Hi all,
Back from northern Italy -- what a cycling paradise! -- and ready to start weekly rides. After some discussion, looks like Wednesdays are the best days going forward; there are fewer conflicts that day for many riders than the other days suggested. I hope it works for everyone! We can consider some weekend rides too if people are up for that.
WHAT: Alton Bay ride
WHEN: 10:15 am map meeting; 10:30 ride
WHERE: Cotton Hurd Brook Woodland Preserve
LEADERS: Bennie DiNardo and Joe Cedrone
Park at Cotton Hurd Brook Woodland Preserve in Alton, at the corner of Route 28 and Chestnut Cove Road. The round-trip ride is 10 miles, with 653 feet of climbing. A little hillier than the last ride; please get off and walk if one looks daunting. We'll ride down Chestnut Cove Road to the end, turn right on Route 28A, then right again at the end of Alton Bay to turn up briefly onto Route 11. Both Shibley's at the Pier (11 am) and Pop's Clam Shell (11:30) will be open; the group can decide which one we stop at for refreshments and/or lunch (I vote Pop's!). Then we reverse the route back to our cars. There is some traffic on the roads, and no shoulder, but not much traffic. Please ride safely, and in single file.
Make sure your bike is ready to ride; my simple reminder to myself is to check ABC (air, brakes, and cables) before leaving the house. You should have a spare tube and be able to change your own if you get a flat; we can help with simple needs, but I am no bike mechanic. Helmets are required. Flashing lights at the rear to warn cars of your presence is an excellent idea. Nordic Skier has some good ones.
Please register if you are interested! Weather looks good now; I'll check in the morning and email those who have registered if we need to cancel.
